EUROVISION 2019 REVIEW: ESTONIA - Victor Crone - Storm

Let's do another review!

Today, we turn to Estonia. Eesti Laul had a rather weaker selection than usual, 'Milline paev' was by far my favourite. Anyway, they chose Swedish singer Victor Crone with the song 'Storm'.

Here are my thoughts:

What I Like: Okay, so the song is an earworm. It has that staple Swedish EDM sound we've been hearing for years now, making it recognisable and familiar to the ear. The chorus is an earworm which makes the song easy-listening and pleasurable while its on. I also have no doubts about Victor's vocal capability and believe that there will be no issues on that front in May.

What I Don't Like: Okay, this is so predictable. Stig Rasta sticks to Estonia like sh*t to a blanket and it doesn't go down well. The lyrics are lame and predictable and all been do before, so generic its almost nauseous, giving us nothing more than a vanilla, expected product, making it the perfect bridge between Iceland and Portugal. Like I said earlier, this is an EDM number that I've heard many times several years ago. Avicii did this and did this better back in 2013, and even Avicii had moved out of this phase in his most recent material, meanwhile we still have bland recreations like 'Storm'.

Prediction: Now the running order is out, I have made a more detailed prediction of each entry. Estonia are 14th in SF1, sandwiched between Iceland and Portugal, the two most high-energy, 'weird' entries in this year's contest. Estonia will appeal more to the more mainstream viewer, and I really don't want this to qualify because a lot of my favourites surround it, and I think Estonia qualifying will mean one of my faves in that half are gone. I'll say its qualifying, though.

Final Score: 4.5/10

Summary: A safe product and nothing more. It could qualify if Iceland and Portugal are difficult to swallow, but for me personally this is just a song that would've sounded fantastic 5 years ago.
