Welcome back!
So I've finally reviewed all 41 Eurovision entries, it only took 84 years! Over that time I've sat with each of the entries for longer and on reflection my opinions have changed about some of this year's entries.
Here's what I'd change:
Original Score: 6.5/10
Revised Score: 9/10
This one is probably be my biggest grower of the season. When you really take time to focus on 'Limits' and let the atmospheric production wash around you it's really strikes a chord. Not to mention I've recently read up on the lyrical content and think it has a really clever concept and a message I've never heard in an entry before, about knowing your limits in a situation and undesrtanding when something is mentally too much to handle, my favourite line being 'the pressure on my chest becomes almost routine', which really cuts deep lyrically and is like a warm, relatable blanket to my ears. This one seriously is an underdog and if you connect with its meaning, you'd know why.
Original Score: 3.5/10
Revised Score: 5/10
Although I still don't particularly love 'Friend Of A Friend', I have started to understand the appreciation for this one. It has got a nice retro production and although I still cringe very hard at the verses it is actually quite well-written and once it finishes I'm left neutral, not loving it or hating it, therefore I decided to raise my score to a 5 for just that. I still feel like another left-hand side result is on the way for Czech Republic this year and I'm getting less annoyed at that concept as time goes on.
Original Score: 6/10
Revised Score: 6.5/10
Although my score hasn't changed too much, I'd say that my opinions have completely changed on this one. I initially slammed the verses on this one but I actually have come to enjoy those more. The airy and atmospheric production feels epic and would be the perfect sound track to a nighttime drive while watching the stars and has became my favourite part of the entry, the chorus that follows is the catchy element but it just feels like a damp squib production-wise in comparison.
Original Score: 6/10
Revised Score: 4/10
Gurl, what was I on when I gave this a 6 out of 10? Although I do still find Heaven an unashamed piece of cheesy joy, in terms of its musical merit it is absolutely awful. The revamp really does just feel like they through everything at it and although I think it works in parts, in others it really doesn't. I had a moment with this entry recently where I realised this is one of those entries that we literally don't need. It has absolutely no lyrical depth or message and is kind of just happy clappy garbage. The only reason my revised score isn't lower is because I don't really rush to turn it off when it comes on.
Thank you for reading my revised changes for this year's contest! Usually I have more changes as the contest goes on so I'm surprised I only have 4 this year. If you have any entries that grew on you or grew off you, feel free to leave them in the comments or tweet me @ESCTBy and give me a follow for more Eurovision ramblings!
