Time for a new review!

Today we're turning to Romania. After a boptastic Selectia Nationala, Romania (or the jury, to be exact) chose 'On A Sunday' by Ester Peony. Let's review it... on a Sunday lol bye i couldn't resist.

Here are my thoughts:

What I Like: Let's start off by saying I'm really into this! It wasn't my favourite going into Romania's national final but now I'd say that it definitely stands ahead of it's competitors. I adore the aesthetic and vibe of this song, which is right up my street. A lot of people have critiqued Ester for 'overperforming' the song, but that only adds extra drama to this and I think fits the spooky and dark aesthetic that surrounds the entry. The interesting non-linear production adds to this and creates a unique product that keeps me hooked throughout, while the subtle build in the song wraps around my ears. I also love that hook. Whether you love it or hate it, it will be sticking in your head because its so damn catchy. Also that music video is incredible and exactly what they need to go for in Tel Aviv! Obviously they won't be able to create that exact atmosphere, but keep that aesthetic in the live version and this will really stand out in a fairly safe sounding semi-final.

What I Don't Like: There's not really much I have to critique about this, which would suggest that it's high up in my favourites this year! My only criticism from what we've received from 'On A Sunday' so far is probably the staging in Selectia Nationala. It had nice elements but the guitar player and everything surrounding Ester looked stupid. Either have gripping backing dancers or just Ester, otherwise I don't want them. I don't think they'll be keeping that staging, but it's just a concern for now.

Prediction: Tough semi-final with not a lot of faith in Romania from the Eurovision fans, but I see the potential in this and think Romania are definitely back in the finals this year. I do think this will be in the 6th-10th section of the qualifiers but I do think its quality and incredibly catchy and should not be left behind.

Final Score: 9/10

Summary: A haunting and charming number which is subtle but also memorable at the same time. 'On A Sunday' has a lot more positives than you may initially think and it's not to be overlooked.
