EUROVISION 2019 REVIEW: SAN MARINO - Serhat - Say Na Na Na

Let's do another review!
Everyone's favourite skinny bop dad Serhat is back for San Marino, this time with 'Say Na Na Na'!
Here are my thoughts:
What I Like: You've got to be dead inside to not enjoy this. Unlike 'I Didn't Know', Say Na Na Na actually has some musicality to it. Although it could be seen as dated just like his previous entry its revived by its tight production and infectious hook that makes it feel way more expensive than it should. That 'Na Na Na' with the brass production is actually amazing and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Not to mention the music video has had budget thrown at it and it feels like Serhat knows how to excel in the style he is going for now compared to when he last competed. When was the last time I actually unironically wanted San Marino to qualify? This is the Serhat-shaped glow up we all deserve.
What I Don't Like: Well one of my points was that this is still pretty dated. Although it feels like Serhat is in on his own joke, its clear that there are songs giving us more and that this is no serious threat, which can make it feel throwaway, but what would Eurovision be without San Marino giving us their dated bop of the year? If another country gave us this there is also the point that I'd probably find it naff, especially with that music video and production, not helped by the fact Serhat literally said he wrote this in 5 minutes, but Serhat is such a charmer that I manage to avoid thinking about this and have a cheap bop whenever the song is on. I can't believe this is the entry I've found the most difficult to criticise so far oh my god.
Prediction: A lot of people are excited that this is performing last in semi-final 1 and could get San Marino back into the final. I do think it's a possibility and I really want to see it happen, but there's no denying there are other entries giving us a more up to date product with lyrics, vocal and production that outshine Serhat, which makes this jury poison. I think it could sneak in actually so I'll say its a borderline qualifier, but the fact we're even having to debate about this one is incredible.
Final Score: 7/10
Summary: This is actually genius. The fun entry we truly needed in this years contest and I really hope this slice of joy gives San Marino and Serhat their second chance at glory in the final.
