Let's get to another review!
Today we turn to one of the bookies favourites in this year's contest, Switzerland, who are sending 'She Got Me' by Luca Hänni.
Here are my thoughts:
What I Like: 'She Got Me' has that 2019 sound. The production of this is really tight and I think its one of the best selling points of the song, my favourite part being the middle 8 which is super catchy and fits the flow of the song nicely as it leads into the dance breakdown. The pre-chorus into the drop is really nice on the ears too and is insanely catching, you can see the mass appeal for this.
What I Don't Like: You'll notice I didn't have much to say but I think that's mostly because its really generic and I don't have much to add. It's pleasant but it just has nothing that excites me enough to say that I enjoy it, plus it has some big turn-offs that stop me from enjoying the song as a whole. The lyrics, particularly in the verses are as corny as you like, and it has that faux latin Justin Timberlake 'Senorita' vibe that is just nauseating to my ears. The choreography what we've seen from Luca so far has also been pretty poor, my favourite description for it being 'crusty choreo'. It doesn't fit the song nor does it actually look good and its a real problem if they bring that to the live performance. It also just simply feels like we've seen it before, but seen it done better which makes me lose interest, but of course casuals love familiarity and will lap this up much to my dismay.
Prediction: As my point above suggests, I see wide mass audience appeal for Switzerland this year. They haven't reached the grand final since 2014 but this is the year I really see them making it in. It's going out in a half full of female ballads and is going to stand out just for being uptempo, so I definitely think its in the final, but I don't think its the potential winner that the bookies seem to predict.
Final Score: 5.5/10
Summary: A well produced song with a killer hook that will undeniably have wide appeal to the viewers, but personally I feel its all a little too formulaic and lacks that extra punch to keep me engaged.
