Welcome back to the blog!
Its time for the final part of my Eurovision 2019 after-show rundown and its the top ten! These are the songs that I listen to the most and am currently loving at the moment, basically the best of the best from 2019. Let's continue!
10 - Slovenia
Zala Kralj & Gasper Santl - Sebi
'Sebi' was one of my pre-contest favourites and is a sound close to my personal music taste and I'm so happy we had this smooth electronic genre in Eurovision and even qualifying to the final. There were little pieces that didn't work as well in the live performance for me so it slipped down slightly but its still one of my favourites, and I love 'Come To Me'.
9 - Italy
Mahmood - Soldi
Italy finally stepped into this decade and served us a modern and effortless performance with 'Soldi' Infact I'd even say they stepped into 2020s, as I'm certain we will get a lot more songs in this style in the following years. The staging was a bit messy but watching the crowd clap and people feel this song from first listen was fantastic to see.
8 - Norway
KEiiNO - Spirit In The Sky
There was a time early on in the pre-season where I found 'Spirit In The Sky' cringy, but with each and every fantastic performance this trio gave along the way it got under my skin more. When that thunderous scandi instrumental comes in its lowkey a goosebumps moment, and watching Tom's vision come to live was fantastic to see.
7 - Serbia
Nevena Bozovic - Kruna
Kruna is another song I never really got into before the show. Serbia seem to have improved majorly on their national final performances two years in a row now. That whirlpool effect is perfectly mixed with the dramatic smoke and creates a visually stunning and arousing performance. Not to mention Nevena NEVER puts a foot wrong vocally.
6 - Belarus
ZENA - Like It
The pop girly of the season proved you all wrong when we said she wouldn't qualify! Colourful, fun, catchy and youthful, ZENA served something that was extremely lacking in this year's contest for all of those reasons and its always great to have a fun and meaningless bop in the mix. Should I be embarrassed to have it this high? Probably. Am I? Absolutely not.
5 - The Netherlands
Duncan Laurence - Arcade
The winner from this edition and my pre-show winner for some time, Duncan Laurence managed to live up to the hype in Tel Aviv. Its difficult to judge staging for such a minimalist song, but I do think that this was actually a good visual representation of the song in the end. I don't think it'll go down as a memorable winner, but a credible one at least.
4 - Albania
Jonida Maliqi - Ktheju tokes
Jonida Maliqi is the flawless Albanian diva that Eurovision 2019 needed. Imagine having next to no staging but still managing to qualify to the final and create such a stirring moment. I have no criticisms of this entry at all, and I hope Albania can continue the high quality status they've picked up after the last few years.
3 - Iceland
Hatari - Hatrid mun sigra
Sometimes a performance can take a song and presentation to the next level, and Hatari gave it all in this. Everytime you watch this you spot something new and that's so exciting as a viewer. That thumping techno instrumental paired with Matthias & Klemens' juxtaposing vocal will never get old and will be an unforgettable Eurovision entry in years to come.
2 - Cyprus
Tamta - Replay
Replay is far and away the most-played song of mine from this edition alongside my winner. That brass drop alongside the leather aesthetic just serves slutty boppy goodness on a plate, and I love Tamta's choreography throughout which I may or may not have been learning since the live performance in May. Not a thing I dislike about this entry, what a banger.
1 - Portugal
Conan Osiris - Telemoveis
Could it be anything else? It's a big decision to make but I'm actually considering whether Telemoveis is my favourite Eurovision entry of all time now. Every single time you listen to this song, and I've listened to it around 200 times at this rate, you spot something new. Another noise looped in the mix that adds another layer to this fantastically chaotic song. It was also so amazing to see his vision finally come together in the semi-final performance, and I love the improvised but angsty choreography Conan served alongside Joao. I'm only just getting over its unjust non-qualification but I guess the viewers and jurors were living in 1989 and not 2049 where I reside alongside Conan and Joao.
That concludes my updated 2019 top 41! I have a new series on the way very soon that I can't wait to begin. See you soon!
