The final first rehearsals have took place! Here are my top 6:
6th - Germany
James Charles wasn't the only sister related person to flop today. To me this is just messy. I really feel like the draw could seal this one's fate. If it draws first half on Sunday this will probably finish last place. S!sters themselves have improved but that stock image LED... no honey no. Feels a little desperate, I'm happy they are using the bridge though unlike most of the acts.
5th - United Kingdom
We're going to deliver something nobody's ever seen before they said... we're gonna break away from the cliches they said... disappointing. Michael can sing but isn't that a given at this point. Its not awful its just nothing spectacular like they claimed.
4th - Spain
I don't think this as bad as people are making out but its still not amazing either. That 'prop' looks stupid but this still has the energy it had before and Miki and his dancers really utilise the stage. Its just everything else on the stage looks cheap. I can't believe they paid so much for this...
3rd - Israel
This is really strong for a host entry. I'm still not convinced the revamp really did anything impactful but it doesn't matter because Kobi is delivering. The staging is nice too and I think it actually fits really well with its design. Definitely one of the better host country entries.
2nd - Italy
A lot of people had a meltdown when they saw this and I think its because this year's rehearsals have really made our expectations hit rock bottom. This is a really difficult entry to stage and I think they've actually executed it well and this is exactly what I visioned they'd do. They've got across the message without it ruining the charm of the song (Germany could only wish) and I think its still a lock for top 5. Don't think its a winner though.
1st - France
I just knew Bilal would serve. I actually went on record to say the Destination Eurovision staging and I think that would've worked too but what they have now is way more universal and dynamic. The message is portrayed in such a strong way without being in your face or cheesy. Bilal's vocals continue to get better and the revamp from what I've heard has added more dynamism to the song. Also Vivi is looking fierce of course. A complete success, and I think France are comfortably back in the top 10!
There concludes my review on the big 5 first rehearsals! I will talk about second rehearsals and predictions in my next blog, which will be my pre-show prediction for semi-final 1. Eurovision 2019 is just around the corner!
